When we look at an institution that has become such an accepted part of our society, we must forget what is socially accepted and follow the Word of God instead. If our society tells us something is correct to do, but God tells us something different from that then we need to listen to God and not to man.

Romans 3:4 “ God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. “

This is not written in a spirit of hatred as many pagans would probably believe. You see, to those who believe that the Christian Bible is true knows that there is but one God. And through His Son Jesus Christ we have access to God and forgiveness of sins and eternal life. To worship another god is to participate in the sin of idolatry. There is a real Satan, and he has real demons... and they are very good at deception and receiving idolatrous worship. Halloween is a pagan festival that is pure idolatry.

Halloween is a high day to witches and Satanists alike. It is a day that has its roots not in Catholic tradition as some would try to make you believe, but it is far older and is directly taken from an idolatrous false religion that literally practiced witchcraft and gave honor directly to demons.
It is evil.
Its roots is evil.
Its rituals are evil.
It is obviously evil.

Then why is it that people who claim Jesus Christ as their Lord will partake in this festival of idolatry and demon worship and not think twice about it?

Ephesians 5:5-11 " 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now [are ye] light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
9 (For the fruit of the Spirit [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove [them]. "

The word demon is from daimon which is an unclean spirit that receives worship from pagan idolatry... demons are historically connected with idols. So, it isn’t that we hate people who are pagans... but it is a very destructive iniquity that does give honor to Satan even if the practitioner does not realize it. So, this isn’t done it hatred against people. Its done in hatred against the spiritual darkness that hides sometimes in the light of day as a children’s holiday. This isn’t paranoia, for indeed this is history.

Druids = ancient pagan priesthood... one of the main sources of modern day witchcraft {Wicca}.

The druid festival which became our Halloween was called Samhain (pronounced so-wein or sow-en with the sow rhyming with sow). Among some of the Gaelic speaking people, it sounds like it ends in an "m" since it is spoken with the mouth closed.

Modern day Wiccan like to deny this, but there is historical evidence that this festival was named after Saman or Samhain who was a god of evil and of the dead (underworld or Hades). In their mythology he overcomes Bel (such as Baal) the sun god, and during this time the spirits of the evil dead roam the land. He is later reborn. Although Wiccans love to throw stones at this story, even to them this is the celebration of the death of one of their gods. In Ireland it was Feile na Marbh, the Feast of the Dead. The druids worshiped other gods, too. You see idols like Chrom and Bel, which many have connected to the Phoenician idol Baal of the Bible.

But on October 31, they believed that Bel died and went into the kingdom of the dead, Anwynn. Bel was the sun god, and it was felt since this was their beginning of winter on their calendar that the days were getting shorter and colder that the sun god was dying. The purpose of Samhain was to insure his return. Many modern day witches admit this involved human sacrifice at one time (though some deny it). Only innocent blood could resurrect Bel.

This was the most evil day in ancient Celtic society in the day when the Druids prospered. Plus the Druids believed that the souls of the dead returned to their former homes to be entertained by the living. Suitable food and shelter was provided for them on this day. The Samhain celebrations included nuts, apples, skeletons, witches, and black cats. Samhain was supposed to call together all wicked souls who died within the past year that had inhabited animals' bodies for their misdeeds.

Their sun god Bel, or in some of their circles called Muck Olla lost his strength or literally died and the god of darkness and death, Samhain was overpowering him. To protect the people, the Druid priests led the people in horribly evil worship ceremonies in which different animals and human sacrifices were rounded up and stuffed into wicker cages and burned to death. This was to keep Samhain and the other wicked spirits from harming them.

Quoting the Britannica 2002 Encyclopedia, “ (Celtic: “End of Summer”), one of the most important and sinister calendar festivals of the Celtic year. At Samhain, held on November 1, the world of the gods was believed to be made visible to mankind, and the gods played many tricks on their mortal worshipers; it was a time fraught with danger, charged with fear, and full of supernatural episodes. Sacrifices and propitiations of every kind were thought to be vital, for without them the Celts believed they could not prevail over the perils of the season or counteract the activities of the deities. “ - Copyright © 1994-2002 Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc.

Quoting the 1997 Multimedia World Book Encyclopedia, “The Celtic festival of Samhain is probably the source of the present-day Halloween celebration. The Celts lived more than 2,000 years ago in what is now the United Kingdom, Ireland, and northern France. Their new year began on November 1. A festival that began the previous evening honored Samhain, the Celtic lord of death. The celebration marked the beginning of the season of cold, darkness, and decay. It naturally became associated with human death. The Celts believed that Samhain allowed the souls of the dead to return to their earthly homes for this evening.

On the evening of the festival, the Druids, who were the priests and teachers of the Celts, ordered the people to put out their hearth fires. The Druids built a huge new year's bonfire of oak branches, which they considered sacred. They burned animals, crops, and possibly even human beings as sacrifices. Then each family relit its hearth fire from the new year's fire. During the celebration, people sometimes wore costumes made of animal heads and skins. They told fortunes about the coming year by examining the remains of the animals that had been sacrificed.”

Samhain was the most feared character in this event. He appeared as a ghostly looking skeleton holding a sickle in his hand. He is known in our society today as the grim reaper.

In the Vigil of Samhain, the Druids would come and collect offerings from the people to both keep each home safe from the evil spirits, and to assure that Bel or Muck Olla would return from his weakened state. The Druids would collect offerings, be it food, cattle, or perhaps a child for sacrifice from each home. If that home did not donate to the priests they would hex you. They would draw a hexagram (a six pointed star within a circle) on your door, and cast a spell and the spirits that the people were afraid of would come and curse your home. That is what hexing or putting a hex comes from. This is also the root of modern trick or treat. Give us the offering for ourselves {the Druids} and our sacrifice or we will curse {hex} you.

Note: When children go to your door and say, "Trick or treat!" They are reenacting the ritual of the Druid priests coming and demanding a sacrifice for the evil false god of the underworld, or they would curse you. They historically sometimes would have a pointed staff that they carried that they would kill your cow, etc., and then put the symbol of cursing (hex) on your door. Trick or treat is not innocent, and there is nothing cute about it when you are armed with the truth of its nature.

We think of pentagrams usually because of movies, etc. when thinking about occult symbols. The pentagram is a 5 pointed star. But they would curse using a similar 6 pointed star to curse your house by drawing demons to it. The Hexagram today is used in the seal of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and other Illuminati type mystical organizations. It is Babylonian in origin, and not Jewish. It was adopted by Solomon (not David) when Solomon was corrupted by his foreign wives. The symbol is part of a larger symbol known as the Seal of Solomon and considered one of the oldest symbols in witchcraft. IT IS NOT A HARMLESS SYMBOL - IT WAS USED TO HEX OR BRING A CURSE TO YOUR HOME BY INVITING DEMONS IN TO DESTROY IT.

Now why are you bringing up some ancient ritual called the Vigil of Samhain that ancient witch priests called Druids instituted in England, and Scotland, and Ireland, and France, Switzerland, and much of western Europe?

The early Catholic Church in trying to capture certain pagan lands, especially the British Isles incorporated several of their pagan holidays into Christian events. In fact they invented Christian events to try to pull pagans into the church. This has failed, that is why so much witchcraft survives in England today and why strange half pagan Indian ceremonies are mixed with Catholic symbols in festivals in Mexico today. We are not to mix with the devil!

1 Peter 5:8 " Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. "

1 John 1:6-7 " If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. "

There are a few more dates where pagan high days have been incorporated into our calendar... Christmas was put next to the pagan Yuletide. Mayday is a satanic day which required the human sacrifice of a Queen of the May for the crops that year. The Roman festival for Flora was combined with the Celtic High Day of Beltane which was celebrated on May 1. Although the maypole was used in an old Roman worship of the pagan goddess Flora with children dancing around a flowered decorated maypole, there was a time when the Queen of the May was tied there and burned for the coming harvest as a sacrifice.

Even after the time that the killing of the May Queen had passed, Europeans still elected a King and Queen of the May and danced and celebrated. A later Christianized version of the May Queen held that it celebrated the Virgin Mary... there has been a lot of compromise with other religions over the years.

In an earlier version of this study, I had reported that the children’s song, “Ring around the Rosy” was a reference to burning the May Queen. The most common belief is that the song is actually a way of remembering the Black Plague of Europe. But the truth is that nobody knows for sure. The song didn’t surface until hundreds of years (early 1800's) after the time of the Great Plague and even more years since they burned a May Queen. I’ve even read one theory stating that the song is based on a ceremony connected with Hinduism and Shiva (not that this seems at all plausible, but it proves that its origins are at least foggy). Some do believe that it is a direct remembrance of the burning of the May Queen on the Maypole. They would put posies on the virgin girl and tie her to the maypole and burn her alive.

Since Samhain was the day that the pagans observed for the dead, the Catholic church in 834 A.D. under Pope Gregory IV created All Saints Day on November 1st. The night before that would be All hallows Eve, still remembering the dead saints.

The result is a mixture of semi-religious symbols on November 1st and a celebration of death and darkness on October 31st. This is where Halloween came from, and this is the only day of the year you will probably engage in outright idolatrous, pagan rituals created to serve demons and not think twice about doing it. 2 Corinthians 6:14 “ Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? “

Disclaimer: There are many groups that are associated with the occult. And before we begin, let us make it clear that most pagan groups are not open “devil worshipers” or believe in human sacrifice. Although witches who do not believe in the Devil do in fact worship the Devil, understand that they are not aware of it. They do not understand that the "spirit guides" that manipulate them are actually demon spirits serving the Devil. There are many different “denominations” of the occult, and beliefs if you will. We will look at what the Bible says about idolatry (pagans) and spiritual darkness and compare that to what Halloween started as and what it is to different groups today. Satanist groups are even different from each other. And there are differences between witchcraft groups from Wiccans to Black Witches. I will also tell you this: There are mystical societies as well that recognize this date for the mystical powers that are unleashed on this night. The point is that this is a date where people who deal in demonic forces concentrate on over many parts of the world. Halloween is evil and a night where humans involved with the occult stir up and honor demonic forces. Christians have no business mixing in this other than to pray and resist the Devil.

In this country it's a pumpkin, but in much of Europe it is a turnip or even a skull with a candle in it. The face is supposed to be the face of death. It is a carved image of the pagan god Saman. The World Book Encyclopedia, 1977 edition, volume 9, page 24-26 says, " The apparently harmless lighted pumpkin face of 'Jack-O-Lantern' is an ancient symbol of a damned soul." It got it's name from an old legend about a man named Jack who was too evil to enter hell, and he could not enter heaven, so he was doomed to walk in darkness with his lantern until judgement day. But the face was that of Saman the Lord of Death himself used to scare away the evil spirits loosed at this time.

You have no problems condemning people who have Buddhas or other idols in their homes, yet each year we carve one with our own hand and set them out in an ancient ritual to appease the idolatrous god of death of the Celts.

Exodus 20:2-3 " 2 I [am] the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. "

1 John 5:20-21 " 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, [even] in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen."

Deuteronomy 4:24 " For the LORD thy God [is] a consuming fire, [even] a jealous God. "

Hebrews 12:28 " Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29 For our God [is] a consuming fire. "

It is not just the ten commandments that tells us to make no graven images. We are not to give into the devil in any type of worship. A jack-o-lantern is a magical symbol to ward off evil spirits by putting up an idol of an evil god to scare them. We had better be careful that we don't provoke God, and at the same time open our home up to demonic spirits. When you display occultic devices and symbols, you are giving demonic forces place in our lives and our homes.

1 Peter 2:9 " But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: "

Since God has called us out of darkness, it does not make since for us to bring the darkness back into our homes. How can you be a light if you are mixing your called out life with the occult???

In the festival of Samhain, the Druids would build a huge new years's bonfire, November 1st being their New Year. And would burn alive people, animals, whatever they would sacrifice alive and watch for omens in the death struggles of the victims. The huge bonfire would burn as the people would dress up in costumes made of animal heads and skins. They would dance and sing either as the victims were being killed either to frighten away the evil spirits, or more likely to represent physically to the people the evil spirits they were so afraid of.

Halloween is a day of fear, death, darkness. These are the exact opposites of what we are in Christ Jesus. So, why do we observe this diabolical day? According to historians, they would then go from house to house in these animal head and skin costumes singing and dancing. Now, maybe you think that dressing up for Halloween is harmless? You are observing an evil, satanic ritual for controlling demons that goes back at least 2500 years.

1 Corinthians 10:20-22 " 20 But I [say], that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. 22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? "

When you act out a ritual that involves either mocking or fooling demonic spirits, you are having fellowship with devils or demons. It is a dangerous practice. Now, some might say let's have a Hallelujah Party and dress up as Bible characters. You are still commemorating this day of the dead when people dressed up as evil spirits. It is another form of the church compromising with a pagan high day. That is how the name got changed from Samhain to Halloween to begin with.

Changing the name did not make it any more holy. In the same way when you compromise with something occultic, it might look holy but you are still honoring a pagan, ungodly tradition. It is just plain wrong. Are we compromising with demons? Let's look at it honestly. I understand why churches have Hallelujah parties so Christians' kids will not go out and trick or treat, but this is still a compromise with Satan. We don't need to commemorate this satanic high day in any way. If you want to do something, then have church. Get the kids together and take them to hand out tracts about Jesus and what Halloween is all about, but don't compromise into performing ancient rituals designed to give honor to the devil !

Reiterating what was stated above quickly, the Druids would come and demand offerings, or perhaps cattle, or perhaps one of your children for sacrifice. That was the treat. This treat or offering would let the Druids keep the malicious spirits from invading the home. Another account about Trick or Treat in Ireland written by a former witch said that the Druids would come demanding their tribute and carrying a lanterns, bags of money, and canes with very sharp points on the ends of them {these became known as leprechaun staffs or fairies' wands or good luck horns}. If the house would not or could not give the tribute, they would castrate a male human or a prize animal for penance... this constituted a trick.

NOTE, ALTHOUGH IT HAS BEEN A TRICK OF THE DEVIL TO TRY TO PERSUADE THE CHURCH THAT THINGS LIKE WITCHCRAFT DOES NOT REALLY EXIST EXCEPT IN FICTION OR IN DERANGED MINDS, OR PERHAPS CON ARTISTS AND THERE IS NO REAL WITCHCRAFT, THE BIBLE SAYS SOMETHING QUITE DIFFERENT. THE BIBLE STATES THAT THERE IS REAL WITCHCRAFT, AND THAT IT IS DEMONIC IN NATURE. IT FURTHER STATES THAT ANYONE WHO DABBLES IN IT WILL HAVE THEIR PLACE IN THE LAKE OF FIRE. IT IS OPERATING IN THE WORLD OF DEMONS AND IT IS VERY REAL.

Revelation 21:8 " But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. "

Galatians 5:20 " Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. "

Do you really want to act out a ceremony that was performed to give tribute to witches or they would curse you? Do you want to dress up and act out the part of the witch, or give out candy and give tribute to the witch? You say that is silly..... that is where that it came from and when you have part of that you are playing out an evil tradition that goes back for centuries. We are literally aligning ourselves with the forces of darkness that God's word says that we are to stand against.

Okay, you have gone to far! Bobbing for apples ! How can that possibly be evil ? This is how. In A.D. 43, the Roman Empire introduced one of their pagan ceremonies to the more primitive pagan Celts' New Year Festival. It was in honor of their goddess of fruit trees. They would try to grasp fruit, floating in water, without the use of their hands. This is the origin of bobbing for apples.

The cat was sacred to the Druid and they believed that the cats held the reincarnated souls of the wicked dead. Black cats especially were evil and holders of particularly evil spirits. So, they had a place in the festival of October 31 and November 1.

Later in medieval Europe black cats were often thought to be witches in disguise or the familiars of witches. And in modern occultism, the black cat finds a place with many witchcraft groups. Cats are a totem in Wicca.

There is an inherent quality of death in everything to do with Halloween. There are no ghosts as in people who come back from the grave. However, there are familiar spirits who impersonate the dead. This is the kind of demon that works through mediums or channelers.

Leviticus 20:27 " A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood [shall be] upon them. "

This is the kind of spirit the witch of Endor had. Halloween has in it all kinds of symbolism of the dead because they believed that the evil dead would come to torment them. Plus there was a deep fear of Samhain himself who wreaked havoc at this time. And Samhain looked like a skeleton.... the grim reaper.

Witchcraft today on the most part takes much of it's practices from the traditions started in Babylon long ago, and seen in the Druid priesthood of Europe. Many of the occult groups active today base much of what they do on Druidish customs passed down in English and Scotch-Irish traditions. Witchcraft is the old religion of Scotland and many today might go to a Christian Church on Sunday, but they rely on their local coven, or the old lady who practices the old religion to help them when they get into trouble. When you look at the numbers of people involved in the occult, it is staggering and shows a great spiritual vacuum that has been left there for the devil to fill.

The symbol of the witch on the broom is a real, although a comical ceremony. It sounds dumb, but it is a fertility ceremony in which the Wiccans jump in the farmer's fields as high as they can to teach the crops how to grow. It sounds preposterous but it was and as I understand it still is a ceremony that certain groups of Wiccans still practice today.

We are called to be lights in the darkness of this world. When we are born again and come into the Kingdom of God's great light, we are not to walk in darkness any longer. We are to be a separated people... separate from the evil that drives this world. We are not to compromise with evil and become spotted by that evil. We are called to a higher calling.

Matthew 5:15-16 " 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. "

Philippians 2:15 " That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; "

When we give into paganism, are we letting our lights shine? Is there anything different in us than in the world when we decorate our homes for this idolatrous festival? Are we being light in this dark world when we have any part of this evil? You know, it is as if many have been hypnotized into not seeing something obvious. The elements of Halloween is obviously evil and in opposition to Jesus Christ and the Bible. Why can't people just obviously see it? Why is a study like this even necessary?

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: FROM A CHRISTIAN ARTICLE I DOWNLOADED IN 1995. When a Christian man was told of the announcement of having a Halloween party at the church his spirit was grieved to the point he could not sleep and asked God why he should feel that way.... at 3:30 in the morning, God asked him what do you think about when you think of Halloween and then Me?..... it when like this:

Isaiah 5:13 " Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because [they have] no knowledge: and their honourable men [are] famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst."

Are we gone into captivity because Satan has made this day look so innocent and fun ? If you will hear, you will have knowledge for God does not desire you to be ignorant of his devices.

2 Corinthians 2:11 " Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. "

According to Grolliers' 1995 Interactive Encyclopedia, "Until recent times in some parts of Europe, it was believed that on this night witches and warlocks flew abroad; and huge bonfires were built to ward off these malevolent spirits. Children's pranks replaced witches' tricks in the 19th century, but most of the other Halloween customs are probably survivals from the Celtic festival."

But it isn't just a kid's holiday. Satanists proclaim it to be Satan's birthday and claim that their magical powers are enhanced at this time of the year. And witches hold it as the highest high day when their powers are the strongest. They get a lot of free publicity at this time and love it. Many times local television stations will interview them which give them a forum to try to recruit others. And not only that, but this seems to be the night that every nut comes out of the woodwork and you see stories of very evil people poisoning children with Halloween candy.

Every year across our civilized nation, sites are found after Halloween that have been used for rituals. Some are kids who are looking for kicks and don't really know what they are doing. And then there are the other ones that are more sinister that don't leave too many clues and are very neatly hidden usually.

We sometimes hear of cases of kidnapping for sacrifices and coven members having babies to be used for sacrifice and if only one tenth of it is true it reflects that truly we are seeing a deepening of evil in these last days. Prophecy is coming to pass before our very eyes. There is a new age revival, and a plain satanic and witchcraft revival in this country. Evil and death are being embraced by much of the past two generations.

October 31 is the great Black Sabbat that is looked as such a high day to those connected to it. In the October 1989 issue of the Baptist Bulletin magazine and report told of a U.S. Air Force physical therapist who says she has been a practicing witch for four years won permission to take Halloween and seven other days off as religious holidays.

Jack Roper, occult researcher with C A R I S {Christian Apologetics: Research & Information Service }says, " the time of the year where you have the highest rate of Satanic ritual crimes is Halloween." " Around Halloween, one of the things you see are graveyard desecrations ...."

One former Wiccan high priest who became a Satanist (not the same thing, although both occultic) and the became a Christian spoke on the 700 Club about a number of years ago that he was Trick or Treating as a child when he had a demonic experience that led him into the occult. He said he had Christian parents and was raised right, but that witches in the area were calling for demons to entice children in his town. He said that no one else in his group saw what he saw, but it was a doorway that almost led him to Hell. Thank God, he was delivered and saved in latter years. He warned about allowing your children to participate in Halloween activities that could open them up to demonic control. I have the video tape.

Our pilgrim forefathers did not allow Halloween in our country when it was formed. In face it was not until 1845 when Ireland had the potato famine and those immigrants brought Halloween to this country.
